You can not beat this place. When I am in town I look forward to eating here. Nice local family place. The best price for seafood! 4 dollars for a dozen oysters!!!! Great place to meet up with family and just relax have a few beers and EAT.

Great muffalatta. Great prices. Friendly service.

It's close to my parents' house and a perfect spot for family dinners. They are quite accommodating for staggered arrivals, fussy babies, and general family mayhem. The food is consistent and good. The muffelata's (sp?) are exceptional, beyond that it's classic New Orleans neighborhood fare. We go a lot and will continue to do so. My only caution is for dieters, it's hard to behave, but the salad bar is decent. I'm a fan.

We started coming in for the 5$ oysters they were great ,but lately have been sad and no more 5$dozen there8.50 ,so, seafood vip platter is very good and enough for 2 people to split as long as one person eats like a bird. Overall food rates at a 7, pizza ok, sandwich very good.Place smells moldy ,needs to be overhauled ,bathrooms suck ,so if u cant take that its recommend by myself to order out till they. can remodel. Wait staff ok but they don't smile untill they know you ,owners very friendly, . lm looking forward to there improvement, so take a chance.

This is a neighborhood restaurant - good food, reasonable prices, wait staff that knows all the customers. They serve a lunch buffet that offers a mixture of fish/seafood, salad and Italian/American. They also have numerous seafood specials. The oysters and crawfish are very good - often they have specials so check the sign outside or ask. There is parking both in front and in a lot on the side.

Myself & a couple of co-workers had lunch here today and the service SUCKED. We had the same waitress we did the last time we ate there and the service was great then but not today. I got the fried shrimp plate with the mac n' cheese. The fried shrimp was hot and good but the mac n' cheese was cold and I swear it came out of a box. I also found the final bill of $13 (I drank water) was a bit pricey for the amount of food that I got. I'm a little iffy on my recommendation of this establishment because my 1st experience versus my 2nd were total opposites of each other.

My Lovely Wife's cousins live in the neighborhood and like to have family gatherings here, so alas, I eat here pretty frequently. From completely frozen boiled crabs to softshells that taste like a dirty aquarium, this place keeps letting me down.

I don't know who is giving this place great reviews based on the food but it wasn't great or good, not even close! Ok the price of crawfish was good and my husband said it wasn't bad, that's why I'm giving them two stars instead of one. First off the decor needs an update badly, renovations are desperately needed. That aside, our server was horrible, she almost never checked up on us after dropping our food and couldn't even crack a smile. The salad bar, was a joke and we got charged $7.95 a person for it! Only head lettuce sliced up cabbage style and the grossest toppings, which were not fresh at all, they even had okra out of a can! The tomatoes weren't even ripe enough to be served and the cucumber was flimsy, meaning it was old. The broccoli soup was so-so and could've used seasoning like most of the food we were served. The onion rings were good but like my daughters burger it needed seasoning. I'm wondering if anyone at this restaurant has heard of salt??? When we went there were a ton of elderly people and I'm wondering if that's why nothing was seasoned. If you want to pack the house with younger people and have other returning customers, they should really do something to spice up the food and make it edible. I was just very disappointed and felt mislead by these other reviews saying the food was good. The food was subpar at best! It was cheap but cheap is not necessarily good. Please get rid of your so called salad bar, it is a disgusting joke! The least you could do would be to investigate a real salad bar and copy that, with fresh ingredients!

When I think of Village Inn I think of the pancake restaurants of the midwest. This is not the chain Village Inn and don't be fooled by the Italian sign, because that is only a small part of their menu. We have lived near this restaurant for a year and thought it was a small place, but we were surprised when we walked in the door. What a happening place and it is a large busy restaurant. Our waitress was a young girl, but great...she never stopped running. You seat yourself, so you never know if you sit in an area with no waitress. It took a while to get our food, because the place was crowded with locals, but it was worth the wait. Large portions! The best onion rings! I had crawfish that was spiced just right. I will go back, which says a lot for me!

Not bad at all... I must say. I have to say, though, I was the youngest person there - by far. I kinda felt I was at a retirement home because of all the old people! But I love hanging out with old farts... they just love to talk and are so knowledgeable. Anyway, I saw their ad in the Gambit, which is the only reason I found out about this place... I saw some talk about it under Yelp's "talk" and I figured why not? I like trying something new. I had a little belated birthday dinner here with my parents tonight and we ordered one dozen raw oysters, one dozen chargrilled, one large soup of gumbo and 3 lbs of crawfish... needless to say, we ate everything. The bill was $50 for the three of us - not bad. If you come here on a Wednesday or Saturday they have $4 dozen oysters, or at least that's what the Gambit said. It's definitely worth a try.

Like other reviewers, I was probably the youngest person in the room during lunch. Or at least my group of coworkers were at least 30 years younger than the other patrons. It has no real bearing on the food, service, or rating really it's just an interesting footnote. The rest of my work companions got the "buffet". I use that word lightly since it was a meager soup/salad bar, two pizzas, and fried catfish. That's pretty much it on the buffet, but you can have as much as you want. I decided instead to order the muffuletta. I have some pretty high standards for muffuletta. My great-grandfather was from Sicily and opened a bakery/deli on Metairie Road years and years ago. I great up with home made olive salad, high quality meats and cheeses, and fresh baked braided Italian loaf or muffuletta for my bread. Thankfully, Village Inn does it right. The bread was the right crispiness, the sandwich warmed perfectly to soften the provolone, and the ingredients of a good quality. I'd definitely come back for another half. So, if you're in River Ridge you can get a good muffuletta here, but I'd skip the buffet.

They serve you plenty. My girlfriend and I had the seafood gumbo and really enjoyed it. I had the seafood platter and boy do they serve you a lot. The fish was good but could use a litter more season on the batter. The atmosphere is laid back. The waitress seemed unhappy at first but did warm up quickly and ended up giving us great service.

The boiled crawfish are exceptional and trust me, I am an official connoisseur! All of the appetizers we ordered, cheese sticks, fried eggplant medallions and fried mushrooms were really good. Everything else is mediocre. The prices were reasonable as well. The service was comical to put it nicely. I would write a novel on how bad of a server she was but to me, it goes along with the place. The decor hasnt been updated since the 1970's with the exception of the ceramic tiles. We came to the conclusion during our 20 minute wait, they were most likely put in after the 1995 May flood. There is a decent sized room in the rear that looks like a new addition but I havent had the pleasure of eating back there yet. Regardless of the comically poor service, we will return for a the delicious boiled crawfish:)

First time it was good and fast. We had the buffet/salad bar. They had red beans, gumbo with lots of seafood in it, shrimp stew, pizza, chicken tenders, salad, pork chops & bread pudding. I didn't eat it all but what I did I liked a lot. I also liked no waiting too! Nice people who kept the bar full. Lunch for 2 1 beer & a tea was right under $30.

This review is specifically for the Wednesday lunch buffet ($12, 11am-2pm). Buffet consisted of: fried shrimp, fried okra, white beans with sausage and rice, steamed broccoli, fettuccine shrimp pasta, two soups, salad bar, garlic bread, various pizza options, and blueberry cobbler. The price is good enough for the shrimp alone, which were excellent. Food was great. Kept the buffet rolling despite the crowd. Service was spot on.

Lemme spell this out out for you in a purely mathematical sense. Wednesday and Saturday, they have a special: $5.95 for a dozen raw freshly-shucked oysters. That's less than 50 cents a piece. Crawfish: $2.49/lb. steamed and very fresh. Grilled oysters: $8.50/half-dozen. Abita Amber (draft): $3.75. Entire bill with a dozen raw, half dozen grilled, two pounds crawdads, and two drafts: less than $30. Fight the math. I dare you. Seriously, though, the specials were amazingly priced, the food was incredibly fresh and thus exceedingly delicious, and the service, despite how busy it was, was still above par. I don't know what more you could ask for in a restaurant. Diner looking shack? Yeah. So? You want fancy walls and bleached tablecloths every time you go out? Fine, go for it, spend $250 at one of John Besh's joints and come away hungry. Or, drop like a tenth of that and leave full and just as a satisfied as you would be at Besh's place(s). (That's not a dig on Besh, he has decent joints, I just think the prices are a tad up there for everyday dining, if you know what I mean).

Awesome place love the crawfish and they are only 1.99 a pound! Also I extremely recommend the oysters they are only 5.95 for a dozen on Wednesday and Saturday. I honestly think they are better than dragos. I definitely recommend this place over any other in all In New Orleans! :)

We stopped in for dinner the night after my wife had gone for boiled seafood with some of her friends. She had raved about the quality of the boiled seafood. We started dinner with some char broiled oysters. My wife thinks the oysters were bigger than those at Drago's last couple of times she ate there. They were good. The rest of dinner for my wife consisted of boiled crab and crawfish. That's why we went. She liked it all, steaming hot and not too spicy. I ordered the fried shrimp plate. (They also serve a platter which is basically a double order of fried shrimp.) Nice size shrimp, lightly battered, slightly seasoned. Cole slaw and fries were my choice of sides. Service from Candice was excellent. The restaurant is split into two large rooms, it was busy, but not packed. There was a steady flow of people coming and going. From the size of the onion ring appetizer, it looked like a meal unto itself.

My family arrived in Harahan fairly late on a Friday evening and this place was one of the few restaurants nearby, so we pretty much picked it by default, but it definitely was a great choice. We have never tried crawfish, and the waitress, who was very polite, attentive, and helpful, showed us how to eat it. I'm also not a fan of mushrooms, but their fried mushrooms were damn good! The gumbo was also pretty good. I wasn't crazy about the shrimp and the stuffed crab, but it wasn't bad enough to give the place 4 stars. All of the staff was friendly and didn't rush us when we were still there after closing (we didn't know their hours until we asked). Great first meal in Louisiana.

Who are you people that rate this restaurant so highly? Do you really know food? This is one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. Run down, terrible service and food so poor I can't even describe it!
